1. Ent. A beetle of the genus Scarabæus, formerly a very large genus corresponding to some extent with the modern family Scarabæidæ; now an Old World genus (Linnæus 1767) of lamellicorn beetles typical of the Scarabæidæ (see scarabæid). Sometimes used loosely = scarabæid n.
