A white or pale yellow crystalline flavonoid diglycoside, 2C27H30O15, first found in soapwort, Saponaria officinalis. Hence saponaˈretin [-etin], a monoglycoside derived from this by hydrolysis.

Sci. 1904 531 Unless the solution be dilute, a second product of hydrolysis separates as a thick yellow oil, which has not yet been obtained crystalline.
