[a. L. Santonica (sc. herba), a kind of wormwood, fem. sing. of Santonicus pertaining to the Santones or Santoni, a people of Aquitania. The plant was also called absinthium Santonicum (Pliny), Gr. (ἀψίνθιον) σαντονικόν, σαντόνιον. Cf. 16th c. F. santonique.]
