Sanfedist, n. (and a.)|ˈsænfɛdɪst| [ad. It. sanfediste (also used), f. santa fede holy faith, used in the title of the society known as the Bande della Santa Fede + -ist.] A member of an Italian political and military organization of the late 18th and early 19th centuries loyal to the Papacy and hostile to republicanism. Also attrib. or as adj.
