The name of a town (now a part of Syracuse) in New York State, used attrib. and absol. to designate a group of sub-stages of the upper Silurian in New York State and adjacent areas, characterized by thick shale formations that contain beds of rock-salt; of or pertaining to this group or the time when it was deposited.
