Pugwash|ˈpʌgwɒʃ| The name of a village in Nova Scotia where in 1957 the first conference was held of scientists concerned to promote international responsibility in the peaceful uses of scientific discoveries, used attrib. of this and subsequent conferences, and also the movement which they generated, as Pugwash conference, Pugwash group, etc. Also ellipt.
