Bergenia Bot.|bɜːˈgiːnɪə| [mod.L. (N. J. Necker 1790, Elem. Bot. II. 108), f. the name of K. A. von Bergen (1704–60), German physician and botanist, + -ia1.] A genus of perennial herbs of the family Saxifragaceæ, having large, thick leaves and usually pink, red, or purple flowers; also (with lower-case initial), a plant of this genus.
