rubeosis, n. Path.|ruːbɪˈəʊsɪs| [ad. G. Rubeose (C. von Noorden Die Zuckerkrankheit und ihre Behandlung (ed. 7, 1917) v. 262), f. L. rubens reddish: see -osis. Originally used to denote a reddening of the facial skin in diabetics: the meaning borrowed into Eng. was suggested by R. Salus 1928, in Med. Klinik 17 Feb. 258/1.] In full, rubeosis iridis (diabetica). A serious eye condition in which proliferation of blood-vessels in the iris leads to ischmaemic neovascular glaucoma and blindness.
