‖ barbasco|bɑːˈbæskəʊ| [Amer. Sp., app. alt. of Sp. verbasco, ad. L. verbascum mullein.] The popular name of a variety of S. American plants, chiefly of the family Lonchocarpus, the roots of which yield a poison; hence, the poison obtained from such a plant.
