Senses 1 and 2 may show two separate words of different origin. With sense 2 perhaps compare Portuguese banguelê riot, disorder (1899), perhaps a borrowing from an African language. Perhaps compare also Haitian Creole blengendeng, an ideophonic formation used adverbially of the sound of breaking crockery.] 1. Rubbish; miscellaneous items. Now rare.
