A term used to indicate the bank money of account in certain places, as distinguished from the current money or currency, when the latter had been depreciated from the earlier value retained by bankers in calculating exchanges with foreign countries. Thus at Hamburg, while the current mark was worth 1s. 11/16d., the mark banco was valued at 1s. 5½d. sterling.

[L., abl. of bancus bench: see bank n.2, and cf. banc.]
In L. phr. in banco = on the bench: applied to sittings of a Superior Court of Common Law as a full court, as distinguished from the sittings of the judges at Nisi Prius, or on circuit.

In games of hazard such as baccarat and chemin-de-fer, a player's proposal to the banker to stake his capital on a single coup.
