Brit. |rə(ʊ)ˈbɑːtə|, U.S. |roʊˈbɑdə|, |rəˈbɑdə| [Shortened ‹robata-yaki n.] A charcoal grill in a Japanese (or Japanese-style) restaurant, on which food is cooked in front of customers seated at a counter around the cooking area; a restaurant featuring such a grill. Also: food cooked and served in this way.
