Ritalin Pharm.|ˈrɪtəlɪn| Also ritalin. A proprietary name (orig. used in Switzerland) for the drug methylphenidate hydrochloride, a central nervous system stimulant related to amphetamine; methyl-α-phenyl-α-piperid-2-ylacetate hydrochloride, C14H19NO2·HCl. The appearance of the word in trade-mark literature predated the introduction of the drug by a number of years.
