avives, n. pl. ? Obs.|əˈvaɪvz| [a. F. avives (also vives), a. Sp. avivas, adivas, ad. Arab. ađ-đībah, with same meaning, lit. al-, the, đībah she-wolf.] A swelling of the parotid glands in horses; the strangles; called also vives.
