a. A manganiferous mineral of the amphibole group, (Na,K)2(Mg,Mn,Ca)6Si8O22(OH)2, found as elongated brown, yellow or rose-red monoclinic crystals.
b. The end member of the series of amphiboles containing this, which lacks manganese and has the ideal formula Na2CaMg5Si8O22(OH)2.
