A throwing-stick used by American Indians and Eskimos.
1871E. B. Tylor Prim. Cult. I. ii. 60 The highest people known to have used the spear-thrower proper are the Aztecs. Its existence among them is vouched for..by its name ‘atlatl’. 1910F. W. This implement, called also throwing board, dart sling, and atlatl, is an apparatus for hurling a lance, spear, or harpoon at birds and aquatic animals. 1933A. A.
