1. Path. Of the nature of a primary disease or affection: opp. to deuteropathic.
1858Mayne Expos. Lex., Protopathicus, term applied the same as Primary, to the symptoms of disease;..protopathic. 1896Allbutt's Syst. Med. 2. Neurol.. In the theory that there are two (or three) sets of nerves and sensory receptors supplying the skin, the epithet of the coarser and more primitive sensibility (involving pain and temperature) and of the parts of the nervous system on which it is based.
