Rhyssa Ent.|ˈrɪsə| [mod.L. (I. L. C. Gravenhorst Ichneumonologia Europæa (1829) III. 260), f. Gr. ῥυσ(σ)ός shrivelled, wrinkled.] An ichneumon of the genus so called, the members of which prey upon larvæ of wood-boring insects, esp. in conifers, and are usu. black with white face and markings.
