Aten|ˈɑːtən| Also Aton. [ad. Egyptian itn.] One of the names of the sun in ancient Egypt; the name by which the sun or solar disc was worshipped particularly during the reign of Amenophis IV (Akhnaten) in the 14th century b.c. Hence ˈAtenism, ˈAtonism, worship of the Aten.
