astilbe Bot.|əˈstɪlbiː| [mod.L. (F. Hamilton (olim Buchanan), 1825), f. Gr. ἀ- priv. (a- 14) + στίλβη, fem. of στίλβος glittering (στίλβειν to glitter).] A plant of a genus of perennials of the family Saxifragaceæ with terminal clusters of small white or red flowers.
