‖ rhamnus|ˈræmnəs| [late L., a. Gr. ῥάµνος.] Formerly, the buckthorn (R. catharticus) or Christ's thorn (Paliurus aculeatus); now only the name of a genus of shrubs typical of the N.O. Rhamnaceæ and comprising the buckthorns. Also attrib.
