‖ prosonoˈmasia Obs. [mod.L., a. Gr. προσονοµασία a naming, appellation, f. προσονοµάζειν to call by a name, f. πρός to + ὀνοµάζειν to name.] Properly, a calling by a name, a nicknaming. (By Day confused with paronomasia.)
