The mainly reactionary and conservative political philosophy and methods advocated by Pierre Poujade (b. 1920), French publisher and bookseller, who in 1954 founded a movement for the protection of artisans and small shopkeepers (Union de Défense des Commerçants et Artisans), protesting chiefly against the French tax system then in force. Also in extended and allusive applications of similar movements acting in the interests of small-scale commercial enterprise.
