† ˈpotate, a. Obs. rare—1. [ad. L. pōtātus. pa. pple. of pōtāre to drink: see -ate2.] lit. Drunk: in quot. perh. = drinkable, liquid, liquefied. Some take silver potate to be = quicksilver or mercury.
