Finally, the upper impression is post-dammed with a further addition of softened wax or compound across the posterior palatal edge. 1953H. R. B. Fenn et al. Clin. 1932E. H. Mauk in Turner & Anthony Amer. Textbk. Prosthetic Dentistry (ed. 6) iii. 133 Dr. J. Ewell Neal..makes special reference to the notch or groove in the bone posterior to the tuberosity on each side where the quantity and character of the soft tissue are such as to tolerate, without injury, more ‘post-dam’ than was usually employed. 1940M. G. Swenson Compl. Dentures xiii. 167 The anterior line of the post dam area is determined by palpating in the mouth, in order to keep the post dam pressure on soft tissue. 1945F. W. Craddock Prosthetic Dentistry iii. 65 The post-dam extends from tuberosity to tuberosity and will generally be about 1/8 inch wide and 1/32 to 1/16 inch deep. 1953H. R. B. Fenn et al. Clin. Dental Prosthetics x. 277 Indirectly the post-dam seal influences phonation, for if it is inadequate the denture may become unseated during the formation of those sounds having an explosive effect. 1976R. M. Basker et al. Prosthetic Treatm. Edentulous Patient ix. 110 This projection, the post-dam, compresses the palatal mucosa once the denture is placed in the mouth and thus creates a border seal. |
