a. The effect of height upon the proportions of a standing figure. Obs. rare.
1624Wotton Archit. in Reliq. (1651) 292 Our Vitruvius calleth this affection in the Eye, a resupination of the Figure: For which word (being in truth his own, for ought I know) we are almost as much beholding to him, as for the Observation it self. 1638Junius Paint. Ancients 233 Phidias..did consider that the whole shape of his image should change according to the height of the appointed place, and therefore made her lips wide open..and all the rest accordingly, by a certaine kinde of resupination.
†b. The action of putting into an inverted position. Obs. rare—1.
