[ad. mod.L. Polychæta, f. Gr. πολυχαίτης having much hair, f. πολυ- much + χαίτη mane (here taken in sense ‘bristle’: cf. oligochæte).]
a. adj. Belonging to the Polychæta, one of the two divisions of the Chætopoda, a class of worms (see chætopod), characterized by numerous bristles on the foot-stumps or parapodia.
b. n. A worm of this order or division.
