resuing, vbl. n. Mining.|rɪˈsjuːɪŋ| [Etym. unknown.] A method of stoping in which the rock wall adjacent to a narrow vein is removed before the vein itself, so that the ore can be extracted in a cleaner condition.
1909H. C. Hoover Princ. Mining x. 101 (heading) Resuing. 1910W. R. Crane Ore Mining Methods ii. 38 Resuing consists in opening up the stopes not in the vein but in the wall-rock, by whatever method of stoping seems best adapted to the existing conditions. Ibid. 43 Resuing is applicable to very narrow veins alone, i.e., under 30 inches in width; its chief advantage being that a cleaner grade of ore can be mined than when both vein and walls are broken together. 1973L. J. Thomas Introd. Mining vi. 188 In some cases narrow veins may be taken by resuing..[which] can be classed as either cut and fill, or as vein mining. |
