[In α and γ forms a. F. polacre, polaque = It. polac(c)ra, polacca, whence directly the β forms. So Sp. polacra, Pg. polacra, -aca, polharca; Du. polaak, Ger. polack(e, -er. Origin uncertain; F. polacre, polaque, It. polacca, Ger. polacke, mean also Polish, Pole; but it is difficult to understand how a Levantine or Mediterranean vessel should be so described.]
