pohutukawa|pɔˌhʊtʊˈkawa| [Maori.] A New Zealand evergreen tree, Metrosideros excelsus, belonging to the family Myrtaceæ and bearing clusters of red flowers with projecting stamens; also called the Christmas tree, as it flowers in December and January. Also attrib.
