▪ I. † ˈplumbate, n.1 Obs. Also 7 (?) plumbet. [app. ad. late L. plumbātæ leaden balls, also (Cod. Theodos.) a scourge to which leaden balls were attached, f. plumbāre to make of lead; but cf. plummet n. 4.] In pl. The leaden balls with which a scourge was loaded.

Fremy 1843, in Jrnl. de Pharm. III. 32).] Any of various (salts of) oxyanions or hydroxyanions of quadrivalent lead, which are formed esp. by the action of alkalis on lead dioxide. Now also extended occas. to (salts of) any oxyanion of lead, the oxidation state being specified in brackets.
