‖ ˌpleuro-peritoˈneum, -ˈnæum Anat. [mod.L., f. pleuro- + peritoneum.] The serous membrane lining the body-cavity and enveloping the viscera in vertebrates below mammals: corresponding to the pleuræ and peritoneum in mammals. Also called simply peritoneum.
