Gr. πλευρόν rib, πλευρά side + ἔγχυµα infusion, after parenchyma, etc.] ‘The woody tissue, consisting of tough slender tubes, out of which the woody parts are mainly formed’ (Treas. Bot.). Hence pleurenchymatous |-ɛŋˈkɪmətəs| a., of the nature of pleurenchyma.
