† ardagh, ardawe Obs. [Seems to repr. an ON. *ar-dagi ‘ploughing-day,’ ploughing, f. erja to plough (cf. bardagi ‘battle day,’ battle, f. berja; cogn. w. MHG. artac, ertac (also used as a measure of land). For the abst. sense, cf. also MHG. irretac error, etc.] Ploughing, the quantity of land that may be ploughed in a day (or other space of time).
