[a. F. pirogue (pirɔg), prob. from Galibi, the Carib dialect of Cayenne.]
Another form of piragua: still used in the same senses, but more widely diffused, and extended (under French influence) to the native canoes of various regions, and to kinds of open boats, with or without sails, locally used. Also attrib.
