‖ piedroit Arch.|pjedrwa| [F. pied droit, lit. ‘straight foot’, the vertical wall supporting an arch, also as below.] A square pier or pillar attached to a wall, which differs from a pilaster in having neither base nor capital.
1696Phillips (ed. 5), Piedroit [ed. 1706 Pied-droit], a square Pillar, that is partly within the Wall. 1704J. Harris Lex. Techn.
