ˈpicture-ˌwriting 1. The method of recording events or expressing ideas by pictures or drawings which literally or figuratively represent the things and actions; concr. a writing or inscription consisting of pictorial symbols. Such were the picture-writing of the Mexicans and the hieroglyphs of the Egyptians in their earliest form.
