phyllophagan Zool.|fɪˈlɒfəgən| [f. mod.L. phyllophaga pl., a. Gr. type *ϕυλλοϕάγα, f. ϕύλλον leaf + ϕάγος eating.] A member of the Phyllophaga, a name applied in different classifications to various groups of animals which feed on leaves: viz. (a) a tribe of marsupials, including the phalangers; (b) a group of edentates, comprising the sloths; (c) a group of lamellicorn beetles, including the chafers; (d) of hymenopterous insects, including the saw-flies. So phyˈllophagous a., leaf-eating; belonging to the Phyllophaga.
