phthalylsulphathiazole Pharm.|ˌfθælɪlsʌlfəˈθaɪəzəʊl| Also (U.S.) -sulfa-. [f. phthalyl + sulphathiazole.] A sulphonamide drug, HOOC·C6H4·CONH·C6H4·SO2NH·C3H2NS, that is a whitish powder and is used to suppress bacteria in the gastro-intestinal tract.
