‖ philodendron Bot.|fɪləʊˈdɛndrən| Also -um. [mod.L. (Schott 1830), a. Gr. ϕιλόδενδρον, neuter of ϕιλόδενδρος fond of trees (f. ϕιλο- philo- + δένδρον tree), in reference to its climbing upon trees.] A genus of tropical American climbing shrubs (family Araceæ), some species of which are cultivated as stove-plants.
