phenobarbitone Pharm.|fiːnə-, fɛnəˈbɑːbɪtəʊn| [f. pheno- + barbitone.] A white crystalline compound, 5-ethyl-5-phenyl-barbituric acid, C12H12N2O3, which is widely used as a sedative, hypnotic, and anticonvulsant, often in the form of its sodium salt. So phenobarbitone sodium. Cf. luminal n.
