Gr. ϕαλληϕόρια (see phallephoric a.) influenced by the root ϕαλλό-ς.] The carrying of a phallus, esp. as part of a festival of Dionysus in ancient Greece. Hence phalloˈphoric a. = phallephoric a. The Gr. word ϕαλληϕόρια is a neuter plural, but the English form phallophoria is usu. const. as a sing.
