Ajl et al. Microbial Toxins VIII. x. 252 A hemolytic agent..was obtained from A. phalloides as early as 1891 by Kobert and was called ‘phallin’. It has recently been reinvestigated by Fiume (1967), who..stated that, in addition to a hemolytic action, a cytotoxic effect on cultures of cells of KB line and of human amnion cells occurred. This substance, whose chemical nature has not yet been established, is presumably destroyed in the gastrointestinal tract and, therefore, cannot be responsible for lethality of the mushroom. |
