1909A. Harker Nat. Hist. Igneous Rocks iii. 77 A concurrent influx of molten magma will..find its way along the crests and troughs of the wave-like folds. Intrusive bodies corresponding more or less closely with this ideal case are common in folded districts. Since some distinctive name seems to be needed, we may call them phacolites... The intrusions..are not, like true laccolites, the cause of the attendant folding, but rather a consequence of it. 1937Wooldridge & Morgan Physical Basis Geogr. viii. 109 Phacolites are lens-shaped masses of rock occupying the saddles of anticlines or the heels of synclines, places where rigid rock sheets naturally gape apart in the folding process. 1946[see laccolite]. |
