pelargonin Chem.|pɛləˈgəʊnɪn| [a. G. pelargonin (R. Willstätter 1914, in Sitzungsber. d. k. preuss. Akad. d. Wissensch. 405), f. G. pelargonie or mod.L. Pelargonium: see -in1.] An anthocyanin (usu. isolated as the red chloride, C27H31O15Cl) that is the colouring matter of zonal pelargoniums and on hydrolysis gives pelargonidin and glucose.
