▪ I. patrist, n.1 rare—0.|ˈpeɪtrɪst, ˈpæt-| [prob. a back-formation from patristic a., as if f. Gr. πατρ- father + -ist.] One versed in the lives or writings of the Fathers of the Christian Church.
