One of the order of priests who carried shrines of the gods in procession, as frequently represented in Egyptian art.

So pastoˈphorium [L., a. Gr. παστοϕόριον or παστοϕορεῖον], the apartment of the pastophori in the temples of the gods; applied to a similar division of the Temple at Jerusalem (LXX, Jer. xlii. 4). Hence, each of the two apartments, one on each side of the bema, in ancient churches, retained in the Greek Church.
