party animal, n. colloq. (orig. U.S.). Brit. |ˈpɑːti ˌanɪml|, U.S. |ˈpɑrdi ˌænəm(ə)l| [‹ party n. + animal n.] A gregarious, highly sociable person, esp. one who thrives on frequent, energetic partying; a regular, exuberant, and uninhibited participant in social activities. Recorded in United States use in 1978 on the NBC television programme Saturday Night Live in the unpublished files of J. E. Lighter's Hist. Dict. Amer.
