papillœdema Ophthalm.|pæpɪliːˈdiːmə| Also (chiefly U.S.) papilledema. [f. papilla + œdema, as repr. G. papillenödem (A. Eloching 1895, in A. von Græfe's Arch. für Opthhalm. XLI. ii. 276).] Non-inflammatory swelling of the optic disc due to increased intracranial pressure on the optic nerve, usu. as a result of a tumour or abscess of the brain.
