palæocrystic, a.|ˌpæliːəʊˈkrɪstɪk, ˌpeɪ-| Also (chiefly U.S.) paleo-. [f. palæo-, paleo- + Gr. κρύστ(αλλος ice, κρυστ(αίν-εσθαι to freeze + -ic. The name was given by Capt. Nares during the Arctic expedition of 1875–6.] Consisting of ancient ice; applied to those parts of the polar seas which are believed to have remained frozen from remote ages.
